Featuring the Tennis Courts of Allegheny County

There a many aspects to the tennis community in the Pittsburgh and Allegheny county area. This page lists a few of those and provides some useful links to more information.

Tennis in the Burgh is the definitive place to find this kind of information. Check out the site and the related blog.

Playing Socially

USTA Leaque tennis offers an environment where you play competative matches but you play on a team and have a great opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy the social aspects of the game.

Most clubs offer tennis socials for guests and non-guests alike. These are often offered as a way to encourage new membership. A bonus, the clubs often help arrange these events, making it very easy to particpate.

Local clubs, like the Highland Park Tennis Club offer a welcoming community of people with whom to play. Tennis in the Burgh lists information about clinics that they offer.

Playing Competatively

There are many tournaments, ladders, and leagues to play competative matches. The USTA sponsors a variety of tournaments throughout the region and a number of other tournaments are held at local clubs and through the city of Pittsburgh.

Tournaments: USTA, TIB

Ladders: Pittsburgh, TIB & TIB

Learn and Improve

Clinics are offered through the city of Pittsburgh, CCAC, Mt. Lebanon and by many of the clubs. These ofer a relatively inexpensive way to learn.

Private lessons are also offered, primarily through clubs but there are some privates available at places like Schenley Park. The Citi-parks folks offer clinics and private lessons. I think they teach at Schenley Park in the summer and at Mellon Park and Oxford in the winter.

News and Events

The Tennis in the Burgh blog is the best place for up-to-date news about local tennis.

Find a Match

It can be difficult to find matches but a few places are of great help. These include the tennis ladders, the tennis leagues, and Tennis Now, a service offered through Tennis in the Burgh.

You can often find a pick-up match at Schenley Park or at Highland Park.
